Invisalign is a teeth alignment system that uses a series of clear plastic trays to shift your teeth into optimal alignment.
Your Invisalign clear aligners are made of a proprietary SmartTrackⓇ material. Two trays fit snugly over your top and bottom teeth, and after a couple of weeks, you discard them and move to the next set.
Invisalign places just enough steady pressure on your teeth to gently move them into alignment. During your first appointment, Dr. Burley examines your teeth and gathers the 3D images needed to craft your trays. You can even see imaging of how your smile will look after treatment is complete.
Dr. Burley then creates a customized treatment plan, and you’re told how long your treatment will last and how frequently you need to wear each set of trays.
The process is completely dentist-supported, and you come in for regular appointments so that Dr. Burley can check your progress.
Once you begin wearing your clear aligners, you’ll be surprised how quickly you become used to them. In order for treatment to progress at the proper rate, you need to wear your trays at least 20-22 hours each day.
Take the trays out to eat, and while completing your oral hygiene routine. Otherwise, they need to be in place in order to put the right amount of pressure on your teeth.
The aligners have smooth surfaces, and are comfortable to wear. They won’t interfere with your speech, and most people won’t even notice that you’re wearing them.
During the end of each tray cycle, you’ll notice the aligners don’t fit as snugly as when they were new. That’s because your teeth have slowly moved, and you’re closer to your end goal.
Most men and women can achieve great results with the Invisalign system. There are, however, a few exceptions.
Young teenagers may find traditional braces to be a better fit for their needs. Your teeth are still growing during your early teens, which can make it difficult to create trays that fit properly as you near the end of your treatment.
Men and women who have complex dental needs may need to delay their Invisalign treatment until they’ve completed restoration work. Dr. Burley provides a thorough dental exam to make sure that your teeth and gums are healthy before using Invisalign.
Some procedures change the shape of your teeth, such as dental implants, crowns, or dental veneers. Once your restorations are complete, however, you’ll be ready to get started on straightening your new smile.
