INTERESTED IN CROWNS TO RESTORE YOUR SMILE?
Crowns are used in cosmetic and restorative dentistry to improve aesthetics and oral health. At Burley Cosmetic Dentistry, we can help you get dental crowns placed and fitted. Our goal is to provide our patients with the treatments they need to restore and maintain optimal dental health.
WHAT ARE CROWNS?
A dental crown is a prosthetic covering used for a variety of purposes such as to repair a damaged tooth or replace a missing tooth. The crown is designed to mimic the appearance of the natural tooth so it is not noticeable. A dentist will place a crown to help strengthen the natural tooth and improve the function and appearance of your tooth.
Crowns may be used for:
- Replacing a filling when there is insufficient natural tooth material
- Protect weak teeth from fractures
- Covering a tooth after root canal therapy
- Replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant
- Attaching bridges
- Repairing a very discolored or misshapen tooth
- Restoring a fractured tooth
HOW CROWNS WORK
Dental crowns generally require two visits to a dental clinic: one to make an impression and prepare the tooth, and the second to place the crown after it is crafted in the lab. However, the process can usually be completed in one visit at Burley Cosmetic Dentistry using our CEREC technology for same day crowns. When a crown is placed over a dental implant, you need to wait for the implant to heal and fuse to the bone before the crown is attached. The procedure requires preparing the tooth by removing a thin layer of the natural tooth enamel before the crown can be set in place. Crowns can last for 10 or more years, with proper care.
